Frequently Asked Questions About Energy Medicine
Energy Medicine is the study of and therapies relating to Veritable Energies, which can be measured and Putative Energies
which have yet to be measured by reproducible methods.
What is the difference between Veritable and Putative energies?
The veritable energies employ measurable wavelengths and frequencies from mechanical vibrations (such as sound) and
electromagnetic forces. Those forces can include visible light, magnetism, monochromatic radiation (such as laser beams),
and rays from other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.
In contrast, putative energy fields (also called biofields) employ therapists who emit or transmit vital energy known as gi by the
Chinese, ki by the Japanese and also called prana by others. Recipients set the intentionality for energy therapy which often
includes clearing, balancing and energizing their biofield.
What are considered putative energy medicine therapies?
The concept that sickness and dis-ease arise from imbalances in the vital energy field (biofield) of the body has led to many
forms of therapy. A few of the more commonly recognized therapies include Acupuncture, Qi Gong, Therapeutic Touch and
Reiki.
Acupuncture - Developed at least 2,000 years ago in China, its procedures involve stimulation of anatomical points on the body
by a variety of techniques.
Qi gong – A component of traditional Chinese medicine that combines movement, meditation, and regulation of breathing to
enhance the flow of qi (vital energy).
Reiki - Reiki is formulated upon spiritual energy is channeled through a Reiki practitioner, the patient's spirit is healed, which in
turn can heal the physical body.
Therapeutic Touch - or laying-on of hands is based on the premise of restoring energetic balance and that it is the healing force
of the therapist that can identify energy imbalances affecting dis-ease.
Are Putative Energy Medicine Techniques a Complementary or Alternative Therapy?
According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) Complementary medicine is used
together with conventional medicine. Alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine. Therefore, Putative Energy
Medicine Therapies are a Complementary Therapy to conventional medicine and/or psychotherapy.
How Did Separation from Holistic (whole body) Perspective Occur?
According to author Candace Pert in her book entitled Molecules of Emotion, in the 17th century, Rene’ Descartes, noted
philosopher and founding father of modern medicine, wanted to get human bodies for dissection. To do so, he had to get
approval from the Pope. The Pope decreed terms to include that Descartes must agree that he wouldn't have anything to do
with the soul, the mind, or the emotions. Those areas would remain under the jurisdiction of the church at the time. It seems
as though the agreement has long been forgotten in the annals of history while the influential effects of a decision to
consciously separate mind and spirit from body, conceptually lives on in the minds of many.
What are the Mind, Body and Spiritual Energetic Aspects of Wellness?
Conceptually, Energy Therapies explore the Mind, Body and Spiritual aspects of the human experience in the following ways.
Mind: Emotional Trauma and Energetics – The Unseen Damage
Until the chakras (seven circular energy centers that parallel the spine) develop their protective shields, traumas hit children full
force. With undeveloped mental and emotional capacity, trauma energies (as do parts of self deemed bad or unacceptable) are
stored and held for later processing often shifting to an unconscious level. Because like energies attract like, we continue to
store similar traumas energetically together enhancing their energetic potency to attract us to people, places, events and things
to help us "work it out" and release these energies. Click Here for further information on the Mental/Emotional Aspects of

Body: Physical Trauma and Energetics
Similar to the atmosphere that encompasses the earth, an energy body surrounds, yet interpenetrates our physical body. Our
protective “atmosphere” is known as the human energy field or biofield. Its main components include the chakras, hara and
auric field which are part of a much greater system. When healthy, the dynamic, vibrant shielding biofield maintains and protects
the physical body. However, when distorted, polluted, blocked, damaged or even perforated, its ability to revitalize and heal
energetically as well as physically is diminished. Click Here for further information on the Physical Aspects of Putative Energy
Medicine.
Spiritual Connection and Energetics
Humankind seeks to enhance their connection through many experiences including meditation, yoga and creative endeavors.
As more of one’s essence flows into their human energy field, the more one feels an inner connection and peace. As the
experiences are repeated, energetic current becomes stronger and pushes out energetic blocks allowing more essence to
come through. In this way, Putative Energy Therapies are used to explore a stronger connection to and a deeper realm of self.
Do energies in our human energy field operate under any commonly known laws?
Yes. As mentioned in the book and movie both entitled The Secret, energy operates under the law of attraction. This means
that we store like energies with like energies. As we incur additional trauma, more and similar energies are stored together
inside us making their potency and effects more pronounced. These unseen energies can hold the key to what keeps us in
repetitive patterns, relationships and holds us back from what we consciously desire.
Additionally, many believe an aspect of the law of attraction operates under the concept that what is focused upon expands.
Intentionality and focused awareness underlie energy therapy. Due to intentionality and focused awareness, energies
presence is enhanced to be worked with or explored in an energy session.
What Happens in A Putative Energy Session?
Energy sessions last between sixty and ninety minutes. Clients either lie on a massage table or sit in a chair. Energy
techniques vary from hands-on to focused awareness depending upon intentionality for the session and energies that present
themselves. (Distance sessions are also available.)
Applying the law that what one focuses on expands, the client sets intent for the energy session. This intentionality brings up
and helps the therapist identify blocks, distortions, depletions and damage in the human energy field and to clear, transform or
release them through focused awareness and/or hands-on techniques. By helping you recognize, distinguish or perceive
effects of energies, you may begin to sense a broader connection between your energetic and physical body and well-being.
Perhaps you may gain insights, awareness and clarity about your life and patterns that keep you from creating the life you desire.
